What are gears and what types of gears are there?

gears

A toothed wheel, i.e. a round disk with regular cuts called teeth along its entire circumference, is an active and basic element of various mechanisms, including suspended technological transport systems. In a toothed, or mechanical transmission, the meshing gears lead to the drive transmission. Made of the best quality steel, they are durable, resistant to abrasion, corrosion, mechanical damage, and properly selected allow you to fully use the capabilities of the entire drive system. These wheels are an indispensable element of all chain systems. They are used in various types of machines, vehicles, equipment, and transmissions. Below we look at the varieties of the latter.

Types of gears

Gears for transmitting movement and torque to another gear or rack are of different types. Our store's assortment includes gears with modules from 1 to 6, while we are able to make special gears up to module 14. Specialists help our customers to choose them, thanks to which the buyers can be sure that the gears selected by them I will be fully compatible with the device. At least two interconnected gears form a gear transmission that is used in the broadly understood industry and agriculture.

There are two basic types of toothed gears: gears single-stage, otherwise straight, in which two gears cooperate, and power is transferred from one shaft to the other without the help of intermediate shafts, and gears multi-stagein other words, multiple, complex, in which more gears cooperate in series, and power is transmitted from the active to the passive shaft by means of at least one intermediate shaft. Moreover, it is said with internal and external meshing - depending on its location. This additional distinguishing feature complements the characteristics of toothed gears.

In turn, due to the mobility of the wheel axes, the gear transmission is divided into gears usually, otherwise fixed, with the axes fixed in relation to the base, and on gears circulatingor planetary, with the axes moving in relation to the base. However, due to the type of the transferred movement, gears are distinguished rotary with two gears, and linear, in which the toothed wheel is connected to the rack - the rotation of the wheel causes the rack to move, i.e. the rotation of the wheel is converted into the rotation of the rack.

Taking into account the mutual location of the axes, gears are divided into gears, among others leadingin which both axes of rotation are in one plane. These gears come in two types. In helical spur gears, the axes are located parallel, while in bevel spur gears, the axes intersect. In addition, we distinguish gears screwin which the teeth of the gears are not parallel to the axis of rotation, but are at an angle. Screw gears, like the spur gears, have two types: worm gears with perpendicular axes located in two different planes and hypoid gears with twisted axes that do not intersect. In addition, there are harmonic gears, also known as wave gears, or cycloidal gears.

To sum up, gears come in many different types, and the factors determining their belonging to a given type are, among others, the place of meshing and the mutual location of the axles.
