Gear wheels are used in mechanisms that enable the transmission of rotational or sliding motion without sliding by means of teeth located on the circumferences of two cooperating elements. They consist of a rim, teeth and a hub. Due to the differences in their structure and various forms of application, many groups and subgroups of gears can be distinguished.
Divisions of gear wheels
In terms of the shape of the rim from which the teeth protrude, the gears are divided into cylindrical and conical. W in both cases, the dentition can be external as well as internal. Only straight, helical and curved teeth are distinguished in bevel gears. Modular gears is a colloquial term for cylindrical gears with straight teeth, which are used, among others, in in changing the gear ratio or linear operation with modular slats.
Application examples
Modular gears are the classic mechanical component for transmitting linear motion via toothed racks. They are used primarily in drives with high travel speeds and long operating lengths. They are available in both disc and hub versions. They work with special toothed racks used by construction machines such as cranes. Straight modular gears with a disc are used, among others in the construction of internal combustion engines. from the crankshaft, and more precisely from its disc with a ring, transfer the driving force and the change of torque for starting to the wheels of the car through the gearbox. The meshing of the mating gear elements causes the rotational motion and drive to be transferred from one gear to the other. These types of solutions can be found in passenger cars, trucks, construction and agricultural machinery.
