Find out about the types of drive chains

Drive chains are elements of transport and production systems used, among others, in the construction, agricultural, food, printing and transport industries. The market today offers a wide selection of these extremely durable, simple mechanisms that enable the transmission of mechanical power. In our post, we present the types of drive chains and their characteristics. We invite you to read.

Types of drive chains

It's worth knowing the types drive chainsin order to properly select them to the conditions in which the machines or devices using this mechanism work. Then we minimize the risk of failure. The most popular types of drive chains include:

  • single row chain,
  • double row chain,
  • three-row chain,
  • bushing chain - chains of this type are most often used in slow-moving machines or auxiliary drives, they consist of bushings, plates and pins, they have a hardened sleeve rotatably mounted on the pin; the inner plates are pressed on the sleeve, and the outer plates are also pressed on the pin;
  • roller chain - it is constructed similarly to a sleeve chain, the difference is that, apart from external and internal plates, it also has rollers mounted on sleeves, rotating freely in relation to the sleeves mounted on the pin, which makes the chain wear-resistant and increases the efficiency of the transmission; roller chains are designed to work in contamination;
  • pin chain - consists of plates and pins; at present, these chains are not used in machine drives due to their low durability caused by the quick wear of joints with too small a working surface;
  • chain with bent plates (toothed) - these chains are made of trapezoidal plates that adjust to the toothing of the gear wheels, thus preventing the chain from sliding off the wheel; They are characterized by, among others, quiet operation, stability, high efficiency, failure-free operation of devices, due to the costly technology and materials from which they were made, these chains are used mainly in difficult working conditions, in particularly durable elements used to transmit power at high speeds .

Chains for transferring power from one transmission element to another, they should be reliable and ideally suited and meet all standards and norms regarding durability. A great example are chains made of the highest quality steel, subjected to the galvanizing process and thus more resistant to rust. This guarantees high performance for many years.
